I adore this piece such a talented artist here. First of all id like to say how this reminds me of a more classical gothic version of the american gothic painting from many years ago.I also like how it has a slight tim burton feel to it. And oh my goodness i only just noticed that instead of the girl standing by the artist which is what i originally thought, she is actually in the painting very clever trickery there my dear XD I love how he is painting with blood and how the lady in the picture is looking towards him its almost like the painting is alive wonderful work from a wonderful artist
Pygmalion's myth is one of the popular themes in art, but I have never seen a Gothic take on it. Until now, that is.
The artist has managed to portray emotionally appealing characters while maintaining the pure aesthetics of a semi-realistic and strictly stylized representation. The choice of the colors not only creates a subtle "dark" atmosphere, but also helps to tell the story by focusing on the essential elements. The reddish eyelids of the tired painter make us realize how long and painstaking was the process of perfection, and the color "transfer" from his life-drained lips to those of hers, as well as the red tinted corner of her lips, presumably smudged from a kiss, help us understand what has actually happened moments ago.
The animated piece of art gazes at her creator with a mix of surprise, affection and curiosity, while the artist looks directly at us, as if posing beside his creation, silently introducing the work of his lifetime. We can see his pride, although somewhat restrained, but we can also see how tired and sad he is. Sad because now he fully realizes the tragic nature of his love.
But this is only one interpretation of the story. The beauty of this concept is in the variety of the moods and emotions it conveys, from hopelessly dark to reservedly optimistic. It's all left for your imagination, because the story hasn't ended, it has only begun...
first off my favorite part about this is how you REALLY have to look at it a long time to figure out she is actually a painting. NOT A PERSON! it tricks the eyes at first glance. the expressions in both of their faces and deep and full of hidden meaning. and in the back ground the classic Victorian wallpaper is gloomy yet quaint the rose at the top of the painting suggest a romance between the two (well, in my opinion). in all honesty i cant find anything wrong with this painting. never change it. its PERFECT. wonderful job
